FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen. FIRST inspires young individuals to explore and learn about STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math! FIRST accomplishes this by bringing students and mentors together to build a robot while exhibiting Coopertition® and Gracious Professionalism. FIRST is much more than a robot – it’s an organization that allows students to be creative and teaches them to be problem solvers and leaders. FIRST has programs for students from grades PreK – 12, with FIRST alumni returning as mentors after graduating from high school.
